Dr. Stacy O'Quinn, Partner, Veterinarian
I am originally a Georgia girl, St. Simons Island and Gainesville. I got my first pony when I was eight and always had dogs and cats throughout my childhood. Always dedicated to my animals, I worked two jobs in high school to pay for my horse and one in college for the same reason. I never lived in a dorm room because I always had to have my dog and cat living with me. My dog and I were inseparable throughout college: hiking, fishing and camping every weekend. She really got me through vet school!
I graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Upon graduation, I moved back home to Brunswick, Georgia where I met and married my husband, Shannon, and started working with Dr. Sybil Davis. In 1999, Shannon and I moved up to South Carolina so that Sybil and I could start our dream practice. We have never looked back! My dad always said, "You spend as much time working as being at home, so you better like your job." I really took that to heart. My clients and patients are like family to me. I enjoy not only the medicine and surgery, but the updates and stories of my patients and their families.
I still ride my horses every chance I get, barrel racing in National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) shows around South Carolina and Georgia. Shannon is an inshore fishing captain and owner of Carolina Fishing Adventures where he takes people fishing for redfish, cobia and whatever else is biting. Our son, Austin, is a student at Thomas Heyward Academy. He loves skateboarding and geocaching as well as reading Harry Potter books.

Dr. Joshua Mitchum, Partner, Veterinarian
Being a local, I have always enjoyed the outdoors; especially Spring on the golf course and Summer on the river. My wife (Emily), my son (Charlie) and I share our home with three dogs, three cats, two horses and a pygmy goat named Amelia. Charlie was born on January 30, 2014 in the middle of an ice storm. This little guy has completely changed my life for the better... although I have never been so exhausted in my life! Emily is an ambulatory veterinarian. She delivered Amelia and three other kids via C-section. Amelia was the runt, so now we have a pet goat who thinks that she is a dog!
I have always known, even in kindergarten, that I wanted to spend my life caring for animals. There is no better feeling than being able to help a sick or injured animal feel better again. The bond between doctor, patient and client is something to be cherished. Seeing people and their pets grow and change before my eyes is an unforgettable experience. I am honored to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients and their pets.

I have always loved animals, and working at an animal hospital where I can make their lives better was a great choice for me. I am a big proponent of annual bloodwork for animals of all ages. Routine bloodwork diagnosed one of my cats with diabetes and another one with renal failure. Because bloodwork caught both diseases early, I was able to prolong both of my cats' lives with proper treatment and medication. I teach both agility and puppy classes (Morningstar's Clever K9's) as well as run a non-profit animal rescue organization, Morningstar Animal Rescue & Referral, Inc. My dogs are a huge part of my life, and I compete with them all over the United States in agility, flyball, dock diving and herding. I share my life with a very patient husband, our teenage son, our nine dogs (Fli, Wick, Star, Fig, Singe, Crush, Freedom, Vamp and Biggie) and the most awesome cat, Chili Pepper. My life is very busy, but animals are my passion, and I would not have it any other way.

Nikema, Head Receptionist
My name is Nikema, but my co-workers call me "Kema". I have been working at Riverwalk Animal Hospital since 2004, and I really enjoy my job! I am originally from Philly, but now I live in Bluffton with my son and our three pets: two Pit Bulls, Raven and Tank, and one cat, Jay. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and traveling up and down the east coast. I can also be found on the side lines cheering my son on at one of his games. I look forward to meeting you and your fur-babies. I am one of the smiling faces that will greet you when you arrive at Riverwalk Animal Hospital.

The time spent with my pets at Riverwalk Animal Hospital naturally led to my working here. This is a fulfilling job that I wish had come into my life sooner. My animal tribe consists of one dog, numerous cats and two horses. I make my home in Okatie along with my husband, son, and all of our furry friends.

Lora, Head Veterinary Technician
I grew up on a farmette in Pennsylvania, and I have always loved animals. I can not imagine working in a field other than veterinary medicine. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Biology from Millersville University, and I enjoy continuing my education and expanding my knowledge through online classes. Prior to moving to South Carolina in 2005, I was employeed (seven years) in the nursing department at the University of Pennsylvania's Large Animal hospital.
I currently live in Bluffton with my husband, Tony, our son, Owen, and our dogs, Jack and Luke. When I am not working, I can be found out on the water or running through the neighborhood. I also enjoy hiking, camping and kayaking.

Deb, Veterinary Assistant
When I began working at Riverwalk Animal Hospital, my animal background was primarily equestrian related. The transition to dogs and cats has been a smooth one, and I continue to learn new things everyday. The doctors and staff are really a team, and our days are always interesting. I love my job!
I grew up in a beautiful area of New England, Connecticut mostly, with dirt roads, open fields and horse farms. Since my two children are grown (and I am done with shoveling snow), I now enjoy living in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. I reside in Sun City with my two small dogs and one very noisy parrot. I have met many of our clients who live there also. I look forward to meeting new clients each day, so come in and say "hello" to the Riverwalk Animal Hospital crew!

I moved to the Bluffton area in order to be closer to my daughters and grandsons. I have three furry rescued friends, two Pointers and one cat. It would be easy for me to become a collector of Dalmations and Pointers, but fortunately my neighborhood limits pets to three per household. I love working at Riverwalk Animal Hospital because we are like one big family, and we extend that feeling to our clients with the love and care that we give their pets.

Yvonne, Office Manager
I grew up in a small town in the upstate of South Carolina. I moved to the Lowcountry to work for a landscape company after graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Horticulture in 1998. I continued to work in the landscape industry for twelve years, but along the way I realized that a career change was in my future. My love for and experiences with my pets developed into a desire to seek out a job in the veterinary field. I feel blessed to be able to work at the same clinic that I grew to love as a client of ten years. I look forward to meeting all of the clients and patients that come to Riverwalk Animal Hospital and to showing each of them the same professional and caring service that I received.

Jordan, Veterinary Technician/Kennel Manager
I began working at Riverwalk Animal Hospital in 2012. That same year, I graduated at the top of my class (Certified Veterinary Assistant) from Penn Foster College. My current positions at Riverwalk include veterinary technician and, most recently, kennel manager. Since I was young, working with animals has been my passion. I can honestly say that I love my job. I get great satisfaction out of knowing that I can help save animals' lives. Outside of work, I attend confirmation dog shows where I show my favorite breed, the American Bully. I have always loved and have been a huge advocate for the bully breeds. My own pets consist of five American Bullies, one Yorkie Terrier and one cat, Sunny. When I am not working or attending dog shows, I enjoy spending time at home with my dogs or relaxing with them at the beach. I look forward to meeting you and all of your fur babies!

I am originally from Savannah, but currently live in Rincon with my two dogs (Pixie and Thor), two cats (Nacho and Spike), ferret (Jack) and rabbit (Snickers). I have always loved all animals, big or small, and knew that I would have a career working with them. In May 2015, I graduated from Ogeechee Technical College with an Associates in Veterinary Technology. I may be new to the field of veterinary medicine, but I learn new things every day. I am so glad to have found a place where I can practice with my passion, animals.

Teona, Kennel Technician/Veterinary Assistant
I grew up in a small town in Southwest Louisiana. As a child, I loved going to work with my mom who has worked as a veterinary technician for over 15 years. I loved helping her in anyway that I could as long as I got to spend time with the animals. I have always dreamed of working in the veterinary field. My husband and I moved to South Carolina with our two cats, Booter and Snarf, in 2015. Shortly after our move, I was able to join the team at Riverwalk Animal Hospital. I am very grateful to have this opportunity for a challenging career in veterinary medicine. Riverwalk Animal Hospital is not only a hospital and kennel, but a place where you can find a new member for your family. I recently adopted a cat, Hinton, who had been living at Riverwalk since 2014.

I have always loved animals, and my pets have been patients of Dr. O'Quinn for many years. My original occupation was as a Certified Nursing Assistant / Certified Pharmacy Technician. I was excited when I found out about the available kennel technician position at Riverwalk Animal Hospital. I jumped at the opportunity to combine my love of animals with my medical background. I could not be happier with my new career path!
