Derry, November Pet of the Month
Derry is a 7-year-old Lab mix who we have known for years. He has the usual dog problems: ear infections, the occasional flea, but for the most part a pretty healthy boy. Derry is always excited to come and see us (as long as we don't cut his toe nails!)
Last year at this time, Derry's parents noticed what seemed to be a growth on his gums. Derry was sedated and a biopsy was taken of the tissue to see what it consisted of. The results said it was benign (not cancerous). We were thrilled, but the growth continued to get bigger. It surrounded his teeth on his lower jaw and started to worry his owners. Although a little apprehensive, they elected to have surgery to remove the growth. We had our board certified surgeon, Dr. Hill, come in to do the procedure. Derry had to have 1/4 of his lower jaw removed, and spent a few days here recovering before he went home. His owners were pleased to find that Derry did just fine after surgery. He has no problem eating or giving kisses, and is a very happy boy as always. And once again the biopsy reports came back as non-cancerous. :) |
