Bobbie Koerber - December Pet of the Month
Bobbie
Koerber formally interviewed her two staff members, Marilynn and Jim,
in late November of the year 2000. Jim interviewed on his knees on a
Beaufort street when he first met Bobbie, and Marilynn interviewed a
few moments latter inside the house where Bobbie then lived.
Negotiations were completed in a few days, and Bobbie took her new
staff to reside permanently on St. Helena Island the Saturday after
Thanksgiving of the year.
Life has not been the same for any of these three since that first
meeting. For the first night in her new home Bobbie was told to sleep
in a crate by the bed. This direction succeeded for about ten minutes,
and after that it became clear to all that Bobbie slept in the bed
where Marilynn and Jim slept. Things proceeded swimmingly after that,
and soon an even better thing happened. Riverwalk Animal Hospital was
discovered and Bobbie cane to meet greats doctors, technicians and
attendants. All of these soon learned that putting Bobbie on the scale
each visit was not only an attempt to record her weight, but it was
also a launching pad from which Bobbie could run down the halls to
visit cats and any other dogs she might meet. One time when Bobbie was
getting some physical therapy behind the hospital building she got
tired of walking just so over carefully laid out sticks, and she ran
over and camped under Jim’s chair. Immediately some staff labeled her
as “Daddy’s Girl”. Jim still doesn’t think so, but how can one man’s
opinion win out against the opinions of so many women?
The people who live with Bobbie are quite proud of their
accomplishments. They have trained Bobbie, and Bobbie is under voice
control at all times. Bobbie hears their voice, and she controls what
she does about it. Bobbie has a sooner mentality. She’d sooner eat than
sleep. She snores nicely, but at least in a lady like fashion. Marilynn
and Jin are not completely sure about Reincarnation, but if it does
exist, they want to come back as Bichon Frises in Bobbie’s house.
